Spring Pom Pom Scarf -- DIY with Katie!

Spring is just around the corner and I am eager to add a little color to my wardrobe, but because there is still a definite chill in the air I figured a colorful scarf would do the trick. I will admit that I am a Pashmina hoarder-the colors are endless, and at usually $5-$10 each they are a total steal. I wanted to spice up one of my tangerine Pashies with a fun pom-pom trim for spring.

I swear that this may be the EASIEST sewing project and anyone who can sew a simple straight line can take this on without breaking a sweat. Just follow this step by step tutorial and you will be rocking this look within 30 minutes.

Step 1:

Sew the ends of the scarf together- about 1/2in in form the edge where they tassels begin. This will make it an infinity scarf (one big loop)

Step 2:

Trim off the tassel end leaving about 1/4" from the line you just sewed. We are going to crate a French seam- this diagram shows exactly what that means, but it is used to create a finished seam so that it looks nice from both sides (front and back). Once you have trimmed the raw edge, flip it to the opposite side and iron flat to make a clean edge. Then just sew about 5/8" from the edge- that will make a little pocket for the raw edge.

Step 3:

Next, place the pom pom trim on the long edge of the scarf and stitch it into place. Honestly, you wont even need to take the time to pin it on, just go slow and line up the edges as you go. This will go in a full circle and meet up with there you started- go back and forth over that overlapping point to lock your stitches in place.

And Viola!

You have a fun and flirty spring infinity scarf. You could put the trim on both side, but I felt like it was not totally necessary. This was a great way reuse a scarf that I already had and I am sure tons of you have accessories that can be brought back to life with a little trim!
