Wedding invitations are on my mind! We have an appointment with our stationer on January 18th and I cannot wait. I have a general idea of what I would like our wedding suite to look like but now I am starting to think about the outside of the invitation. Ideally, I would like to have a calligrapher address the envelopes but I need to price that service out and find someone. If you have any recommendations, I would love referrals!
Another idea I have become completely obsessed with is the idea of vintage stamps on the envelope. I think the fabulous Martha Stewart mainstreamed this idea and I just LOVE it. However, finding a collection of vintage stamps that make up enough postage (usually $.61 to $.78) and have a unifying theme is hard work. I have done some research and found some resources on Etsy. Ebay also has tons of vintage stamps. Friends have told me SeaJay Stamp and Coin is a fabulous resource but can be pricey...their ebay store is currently closed until February 1st. Did anyone out there use vintage stamps on your wedding invitations?

Love, love, love!

LOVING THE VINTAGE STAMPS!! They just make it so unique!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be easier to have custom stamps made to resemble the old ones? I know there are companies out there that you upload your own image but I don't know if they do any amount (postage) you want. This Christmas I had so many old Christmas stamps left that weren't the right postage but I used them anyway and just added the extras with one or two cent stamps. I thought it would be funny but some people thought it was stupid. Now that I see your post I guess I was on to something and didn't even know it!
ReplyDeleteHey KAG-
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I wanted to provide you with the name of the woman we used for our invitations. Instead of having her write out my parents' return address on all of the envelopes, we had her create a stamp that we used. We loved her work and she was great to work with. Let me know if you'd like to see any pictures of the invitations.

All the best,

KAG,
ReplyDeleteI am from Boston, but live in Baltimore and hired an MA calligrapher to do our invites. The woman is a friend of my mom's and just does calligraphy for fun. Her handwriting is beautiful and she will do it for cheap since she is just trying to get practice. She did our Save-the-Dates, escort cards and wedding invitations.
I have a picture in a blog about our wedding. I have a sample of an envelope that I could scan you if you like her.

I, too, love this look. Vintage stamps would be perfect for our May wedding but I'm thinking I'll just make it easy on myself and forego them. I'm doing my own calligraphy! I took classes a few years ago and use it on my Christmas cards ever year. I did all of our save-the-dates and they turned out great!
ReplyDeleteChossing my wedding suite was my favorite part of planning! There are so many beautiful options, and I had a hard time narrowing it down. I was really happy with what I ended up choosing though. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI didn't use vintage stamps, but I think that's such a cool idea! I'd not heard of it until now. You should def try to make it happen. I bet most of your guests will never receive an invitation with vintage stamps again. Maybe you can find nautical themed ones?
I loved this part of planning my wedding! I used a calligrapher whose company is called Pretty Pen Jen. Her work was fabulous, she did our seating cards as well. I was very happy with her work. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea!
